Scope and Content Note From the Sub-Series: Class Day seems to have started in 1868, and was a day of celebration for each graduating class, marked by speeches ("orations"), poems, processions, and the lighting of the ceremonial Peace Pipe. In the beginning, Class Day was usually held the day after graduation, but this appears to have changed by the early 1880s, when it was held a day or two prior to graduation exercises.
